Jazz: Gonzaguinha’s Africa/Brazil
“Jazz: Gonzaguinha’s Africa/Brazil #1-10” is based on a composition by the late Brazilian singer/songwriter Gonzaguinha. Titled Tanacara (“It’s in the Face”). Its subject is the shared culture and lineage of Africa and Brazil. Though not technically jazz, Afro-Brazilian music has inspired many jazz musicians. This song was included in Gonzaguinha’s 1990 recording titled É.
